The Call to Ministry
Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth. I Samuel 3:9
There is one voice that will not be ignored and that is the voice of God. At the age of nine, Bishop Moody accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Less than two years later, God called him to preach the gospel. When God called Bishop Moody to the ministry, his initial response was, “No, not me!” God replied, “Yes, you Carlis.” Knowing that he had heard from the Lord, he informed his pastor who told him to go and pray. In obedience, he consecrated himself to the Lord for three days. He prayed that God would confirm His call by saving one soul whenever he preached his first sermon. Bishop Moody had no idea when the opportunity to preach would come. Whenever it came, he was committed to the call and ready to answer it. His opportunity to preach had finally arrived! His very first sermon was taken from the sixth chapter of Genesis. The message was entitled “It’s Gonna Rain”. During that service, God granted Bishop Moody’s request and one soul was saved - to the glory of God our Father!
At 15 years of age, Bishop Moody was ordained a minister and established his first church in Waukegan, Illinois. Almost 60 years later, Bishop Moody continues to answer the call that he might hear the Lord say “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
