Youth Department

Introduction

Faith Temple’s Youth Department is comprised of all the ministries within the local assembly, serving the needs of our children ranging from the primary ages group to our youth in elementary and middle school and our young adults in college, whether studying locally or long distance away from home.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Youth Department to nurture the individual as a whole person.  It is our endeavor to enrich our youth mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and spiritually.  We purpose to lend spiritual support to believers in Christ and to reach the non-believer by our living example through the Word of God.

Departmental Ministries

Sunday School for Children and Youth

Primary Beginners – Ages 3-7
Juniors Class - Ages  8-11
Intermediate Class – Ages 12-13
Young People’s Class – Ages 14-17
Young Women’s Class – Ages 18-24
Young Men’s Class – Ages 18-24

Children’s Church

Children’s church is a special time designed for the little ones (ages 3 through 12).  Activities include singing, scripture reading and  memorization, prayer and class discussion.  Our children are taught how to conduct themselves at church, home and in their community. They are taught to love and obey their parents and other adults, and do good to others. We educate them on how to accept Christ into their hearts and live a victorious Christian life. Each Sunday morning, we have a special activity, which reinforces the day’s lesson.

Children’s Choir

The Children’s Choir is comprised of the children in the local church ages 3-11.  Under the dynamic leadership of Sister Barbara Gill, Director of our Children’s Choir, these children minister to us monthly during a portion of our main sanctuary services.  Their gifts and talents are presented under the anointing goal and they surely bring glory to our King!

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir Music Ministry seeks to enrich the Sunday morning service in praise, worship and devotion.  In a youthfully upbeat fashion, the Youth Choir ushers the presence of God into the atmosphere through song.  The Youth Choir ministry is a great means by which to draw other young people into the kingdom of God.  The goal of the Youth Choir is to lead a new generation of youth to Jesus through the ministry of music.

Scholastic Motivations

Scholastic Motivation Ministries seeks to stimulate Christian growth and development of young people ages 7-18 through academic subject areas, specifically Mathematics and Spelling.  Scholastic Motivation Ministries also includes areas of ministry in oratory, drill team, Bible Bowl, youth talent and building moral and social values in our youth.  On a national level we expand the ministries further into the following segments: Youth Talent Hour, SMM Financial District, which teaches our children about money management and investment, COGIC Gentlemen, COGIC Ladies, Jump Rope, Beginners Golf, Political Literacy, Talent Showcase and SMM Mart, which is an opportunity to build their knowledge in finances. Our main objective is to help each young person reach his/her fullest potential in Christ.

Sunshine Band  (Ages 4-12)

This weekly Bible Study for children and pre-teens is one of the oldest auxiliaries of the Women’s Department of the Church of God in Christ.  This ministry nurtures the whole child as they grow from childhood into adolescence.  Classes are grouped together according to age and developmental levels in order to meet the needs of the child both naturally and spiritually.  The National Sunshine Band Motto for instructors is:  “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6.  The National Motto for children is:  “Let your light so shine before me, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.  In teaching the children, we accomplish theses truths through a variety of media such as drama, music, arts and crafts, and of course the study of the Word of God.

Young People Willing Workers Y.P.W.W. – Boys (Ages 13-18)

The purpose of weekly Bible study is to provide in-depth biblical, theological, spiritual, and practical analysis of the scripture. We strive to equip our young men with the scriptural understanding that will enable them to interpret the Bible responsibly and to serve God’s people compassionately.

Young People Willing Workers  Y.P.W.W.- Girls (Ages 13-18)

The purpose of weekly Bible study is to provide in-depth biblical, theological, spiritual, and practical analysis of the scripture. We strive to equip our young women with the scriptural understanding that will enable them to interpret the Bible responsibly and to serve God’s people compassionately.

King’s Daughter’s Praise Dance Ministries

Praise is our offering unto the Lord.  Praise is based on our covenant with God.  Since God has commanded us to praise Him we do so through the expression of dance which is also biblically based.  The young ladies in this ministry live a clean life before the Lord so as not to taint the ministerial gift given to them by the Lord.

Daughter’s of Praise

These younger girls between the ages of 7-12 years, are trained early to realize that their desire to minister before the Lord is an honor.  Following the pattern of the King’s Daughters, these little ones minister in dance in truth and simplicity.

Mime of Faith

The purpose of this expressive dance ministry is to minister in dance in such a way as to bring others INTO THE PRESENCE of God.   We exist to win souls for the kingdom and bring others into a deeper relationship with God. We desire to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, ministering in dance to others, as the Lord ministers to us.

Scholarship Foundation

The Scholarship Foundation is a ministry that encourages the educational growth of our children and youth. The Foundation recognizes the academic achievements, awards, special merits and recognition that our students accomplish and maintain throughout the school year.  Honor and acknowledgement is given to all students from kindergarten through college level during a special ceremony once a year. The Foundation also provides annual scholarships and financial awards that assist our youth in paying for college and/or to attend advanced learning courses.

College Outreach Ministries

The College Outreach Ministries of Faith Temple Church serves to meet the needs of our youth during their college years.  We are the link that keeps them connected to their home church via cards, phone calls, email and care packages.  The ministry has gotten rave reviews from our students away at college about the thoughtfulness and love in sending care packages.
