Behind the Man

Behold we have a Bishop that is “…cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.” (I Samuel 16:18)

The following seven stories are a few examples of how God has greatly manifested Himself in the life of his servant, Bishop Carlis L. Moody Sr. You yourself will see that, indeed, the Lord is with him!

The Miracle of The Cross

Miracle of the CrossDuring a mission trip to Athens, Greece, Bishop and the mission team climbed Mars Hill to see over the city. While up on Mars Hill, Bishop testified of his excitement about being on the very hill where the Apostle Paul preached.  When they returned to their hotel and Bishop removed his shoes, the Holy Spirit had him to look under his shoe.  He was amazed at what he saw! He showed his son, Elder Carlis Moody Jr., and he too looked at the shoe in amazement.  Bishop then rubbed the bottom of the shoe.  It felt completely smooth as they were practically new shoes.  After rubbing the shoe, what he saw was still there! There was an imprint of a cross under his shoe!

The next morning he awoke and the cross was still there. He wore the shoes to meet the rest of the mission team.  He then removed his shoes and showed them the miracle that had taken place!  Many of them looked and photographed this special miracle.  After two days, the cross was gone.

No Way Out

Bishop and a tour group of 72 people were travelling to the Pentecostal World Conference in Nairobi, Kenya.  On their way to Kenya, they traveled to Israel and Egypt. While in Israel, Bishop preached in Caiphas’s house. Some of the group was baptized in the Jordan.

Bishop and the group prepared to leave Israel heading for Egypt. In order to get from Israel to Egypt, you had to ride a ferry or drive across a bridge into Egypt.  They traveled from Jerusalem to the Sinai desert. By the time they arrived at the Suez Canal, the last ferry had already crossed into Egypt and the bridge was drawn. There was no way into Egypt until the next morning.

The saints began to pray.  About 2 hours passed. As they prayed, a man came along the Suez Canal bank. Bishop told him of their situation and the man went to find someone to reconnect the bridge. Not long after, they were able to bring both buses into Egypt.

After spending 4 days in Cairo, Bishop and the team were preparing to go to Nairobi, Kenya (for the Pentecostal World Conference) when they were told that the airline (EL AL Airlines) was on strike.  The airline officials told Elder Denny & Elder John Lawrence that there was no way to get out of Egypt.  They also told them that their tickets were unacceptable on any other airline(EL AL was a government controlled airline).  Again, the saints began to pray.

About 2 hours later, the main office official came to tell the group that they had changed their mind and would allow one plane to fly (even though they were still on strike)! This one plane was to carry Bishop, all the saints, and a flight crew. Not only did this plane carry all the saints from Egypt to Nairobi, Kenya, it stopped in Canada to pick up the remaining group that were travelling to Kenya!

After staying in Kenya for a week, EL AL Airlines was still on strike. God allowed Swiss Air airlines to accept our tickets so the entire group could get home. To God Be The Glory!

The Horse – El Caballo

While on a mission trip in The Dominican Republic, Bishop Moody went on an eleven-hour horseback riding adventure.  His first challenge was trying to get the horse to move forward. He said everything he could to get him to move forward, but he wouldn’t. He pulled the reigns, used the spikes, kicked his side, but the horse would not go.  Finally, Bishop realized that the horse only understood Spanish.  When someone told the horse to go in Spanish, he went!

Eleven hours later, Bishop said everything he could (in English) to get the horse to stop.  Needless to say, it did not work. Someone yelled (in Spanish) for the horse to stop and he did. When Bishop got off the horse, he was so sore that he had to soak in hot water for a while!

The Soaring Eagle

Bishop Moody - Soaring EagleBishop and Mother Moody were vacationing in Cancun, Mexico.  One afternoon Bishop was resting on a lounge chair on their veranda. About 2:30p.m. he awoke to find an eagle looking directly at him. The eagle was sitting on the railing of their veranda. Bishop began to ask himself if he had ever seen a bird like this.  That’s when he realized it was an eagle.

Bishop wondered if he moved whether the eagle would fly away.  He was trying to think of a way to move and get his camera, without the eagle flying away.  He wanted to have proof of this experience.  Finally, he decided to get up and get the camera. With or without the picture, he would tell the story.

He then slowly moved to get his camera.  When he returned the eagle was waiting for him. It was as if the eagle was posing for Bishop.  Mother Moody watched everything from the window of their room. After taking a number of photos, Bishop went back into the room. He and Mother Moody got dressed and went to dinner.  When they returned (at least 2 hours later), they looked out on the veranda to find that the eagle was still there!

Jehovah Ropheka – The Lord My Healer

On June 7, 2002 at 3:07 p.m. Bishop was sitting in his office on the phone.  It was as if an electric shock had hit him.  He thought it was from his computer malfunctioning. The shock traveled from the top of his head down to his face and then to his hand. During this entire time, Bishop continued to talk on the phone.  He looked around because he sensed something was wrong. As the shock reached his hand, it went limp and he dropped the phone.  He picked it up again and continued to talk.  When the shock reached his hand again, it went limp and he dropped the phone a second time. He was sure he was having a stroke.  At that moment, he lifted his hand and shouted, “Loose Me”!

The shout was so strong and loud that his secretary came running to see what was wrong. His son, Elder Anthony, came in to his office and immediately called the paramedics.  When they arrived, Bishop walked to the stretcher and they strapped him down.  His face was twisted and his right eye closed.
At the hospital, Pastor Brewer and Elder Woodards prayed for Bishop and immediately there was noticeable improvement in his face and eye.  During the time in emergency, Bishop had little concern for the fact that he had endured such a deadly stroke. He was more concerned with how he would be able to continue to preach with his face distorted.

After completing some x-rays, the doctors discovered a hole in Bishop’s heart. They determined that it had been there, undetected, since he was a child. With all the x-rays Bishop has had in his life, he knew God had a purpose.  They explained that a blood clot traveling through the hole in his heart to his brain caused the stroke. The doctors also stated that if it had not been for the hole in his heart, he would have had a massive heart attack and died! He entered the hospital on a Thursday and came home on the following Wednesday. The Lord indeed is our Healer!

The Great Physician

Now that the hole in Bishop’s heart had been detected, Bishop’s caregivers (nurses from our church family) strongly recommended that he receive the operation that would repair the hole in his heart.  On September 27, 2002 Bishop decided to have the doctors investigate the impact of repairing the hole in his heart. They determined that the process should have minimal complications since the passage to the heart had no blockage. On September 28, 2002 Bishop went to be prepared for surgery.  On Friday, they put Bishop to sleep and opened him up to sew up the hole in his heart. It was a 9-inch laceration and a four-hour operation.  While in recovery, Bishop began internal hemorrhaging.  They had to re-open his laceration and address the hemorrhage.  Bishop slept through the entire ordeal. When he woke, he knew nothing of what happened.  When the doctors began to prescribe him medication to lessen the pain from the surgery, he told them that he did not feel any pain.  They were speechless! From that day until now, Bishop has not felt any pain or taken a single pain pill.  Our God is the Great Physician!

His Manifest Presence

Behind the Man Bishop MoodyWhile selecting photos for this website (from the church’s photo library), we discovered a picture that truly takes your breath away!  Our church photographer unknowingly captured the manifestation of the Holy Spirit during one of our services . We discovered the photo during the 2004 Missions service “The King Is Coming”.

As you can see in the photo, the image of the Holy Spirit is coming through the walls of our sanctuary.  You can see the stained glass running down the front of His face. To put the location in perspective, our sanctuary chandeliers hang about twenty feet in the air.  This is a photo that truly speaks for itself!
